The pioneering American talk-show host, Mike Douglas has died aged 81. Mike Douglas was born in Chicago in 1921, his show, The Mike Douglas Show, was syndicated on American Television from 1961 until 1982, and he interviewed at least 3,000 guests over the years. He died in Florida on August 11 2006. Mike Douglas is survived by his wife Genevieve and his three children.

Actor Patrick Allen has died aged 79

Actor and prolific voice-over artist, Patrick Allen has died aged 79 after a long illness. Patrick, who was known affectionately as King of Voice-overs was born in Nyasaland (now Malawi), in Central Southern Africa in 1927. Patrick married Sarah Lawson, whom he met whilst appearing with the Royal Shakespeare Memorial Company at Stratford. Patrick Allen starred in films, television and on the radio, he also had a busy schedule with his voice-over work. Patrick died peacefully in hospital on July 28 2006, he is survived by his wife Sarah and his two sons.

    Charles Allen to resign

    ITV chief executive Charles Allen is to resign after two and a half years in the job. A report in the The Guardian on August 3 2006 said that the 49 year-old Scot had told friends that he will offer to stand down at an ITV board meeting on Monday, ahead of Wednesday's interim results, with the intention of overseeing the transition to a new chief executive.
