Turkish Delight commercials from the 1960s and 1980s
Turkish Delight is now made by Cadbury, but was formerly made by J. S. Fry
& Sons. It was launched in the UK in 1914. Fry's Turkish Delight
consists of rose-flavoured Turkish delight surrounded by milk
chocolate. J.S. Fry & Sons merged with Cadbury in 1919. The J.S.
Fry & Sons company can be traced back to 1728.
The tag-line "Full of Eastern Promise" is used for television
commercials in the United Kingdom. The voice-over in the first featured
commercial is provided by the actor
Anthony Valentine. The late actor and model
Jane Lumb was one of the very first 'Turkish Delight girls' in the
1960s. The first featured commercial from the 1980s is still occasionally aired, usually in
the early hours of the morning!*
